Do real estate agents earn a base salary?

I know it’s a commission based position. Just wondering, do real estate agents earn a base pay at first?
No, it is make a sale or starve. The commission is all the agent gets.

There are some companies that now pay a base salary, but there are very few of them, and they don’t attract the top sales people. On top of which, if there is a base salary, it would come out of the commission that the brokerage earns, which would mean the commissions would be a lot smaller on a per sale basis.
The best way of making such a scheme work is for the agencies to charge the sellers and buyers a fee directly, regardless of whether the property sells or not. Most sellers want to pay for results, so there is a lot of resistance to this kind of approach.
And yes, I’ve looked into starting an agency that works exactly that way.
